WPA Statement of Purposes
April 2006

1. The name of the proposed incorporated association is the Walkerville Progress Association Inc.

2. The purposes for which the proposed incorporated Association is established are:

(a) To provide a forum for all users of Walkerville whether they be permanent residents, landowners, holiday house owners, guests of owners, caravan park residents, day trippers from local towns and regional centers or regular visitors wherever they come from.

(b) This association believes there is a need to improve the physical amenities on the Walkerville Foreshore to make everyone's experience more enjoyable. Clean toilets, attractive picnic facilities, beach showers, tourist signage of facilities in nicely landscaped areas, will improve the wellbeing of most our Visitors without ruining the natural landscape.

(c)
To ensure transparency of process regarding all major issues (eg. Boat ramps) that affect the Walkerville Community and widely publicise and report transgressions or impropriety involving these matters. To create a level playing field by giving as many stakeholders as possible - a voice for whatever views they hold.

(d) To reject inappropriate and insensitive development at the same time as rejecting inappropriate restrictions.

(e) To foster working relationships with other local associations on issues we have in common whilst agreeing to disagree on those matters that separate us.

(f) To conduct meetings, surveys, polls and reference as necessary and to receive and initiate petitions.

(g) To call at least 3 general meetings of the Association each year in January, Easter period and Cup Weekend. Hold at least 4 Committee Meetings per year and provide at least quarterly newsletters to the Membership of the association.

(h) To demonstrate to the wider Victorian Community that Walkerville is a place of great natural beauty, that it is a place for the enjoyment of anyone who wants to visit and is managed by a community that has pride in what it offers to our visitors and hopes they go away with memories of a very positive experience.

(i) This association genuinely acknowledges that environmental issues are of paramount importance if we are to keep what we have. mBut not at the expense of everything else - including common sense. Sensitive managed progress will benefit all of the stakeholders at Walkerville.

(j) To ensure that responsible authorities - both State and Federal, not only but including DS&E, Parks Victoria, Shire Council, Marine Safety Victoria, have a wider view as possible of the local community's aspirations on whatever matter they are dealing with that affects the Walkerville Area
